Buddy Miles, a soulful singer and drummer who played with Jimi Hendrix among others, has died at age 60. He is best known for playing drums on the Hendrix "Electric Ladyland" and later joining Band of Gypsys with bassist Billy Cox, but I was surprised to learn that he also played with artists such as Wilson Pickett, the Delfonics, and the Ink Spots, and was a member with Mike Bloomfield of Electric Flag.
Miles and Hendrix first worked together when the guitarist produced an album by the Buddy Miles Express.
I remember seeing him on TV a number of times during the '70s on those late-night concert shows, doing songs including his big hit "Them Changes."
An article in the Los Angeles Times mentions one additional Buddy Miles gig I wasn't aware of: lead singer of the California Raisins, both in their commercials and on the albums they recorded.
