It's another big boatload of great concerts going on sale Friday (and some on Saturday). Among the most anticipated shows is the Americanarama tour featuring Bob Dylan, Wilco, and My Morning Jacket, which will come to Jones Beach and to Pier A Park in Hoboken, which hosted its first-ever major show last summer when Mumford & Sons played there.

And, of course, there are plenty of gigs at indoor venues, for us vampires who enjoy see shows in dark, smelly clubs, even when the weather is bright and sunny outside. Enjoy, all...

Music Notes: Foo Fighters Video, Free "Social Network" Songs, Epitonic Free Downloads are Back, Mike Starr Dead, & More

* The Foo Fighters will spend Record Store Day (April 12th 16th) making appearances at various record stores across the U.S. in a white limo to promote the release of "White Limo," the song and video from their new album "Wasting Light." The album comes out the same week as Record Store Day. What's more, the group will be releasing "a very special vinyl album of their favorite cover tunes, called "Medium Rare," EXCLUSIVELY for Record Store Day participating stores."

* Get a free five-song sampler from the Oscar-winning soundtrack to "The Social Network" by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. Just go to the website and enter your e-mail address, and you'll get a confirmation message. If you like the music, you can buy the entire album for $5 (MP3 download) on the website (or $8 for CD; vinyl also available).

* The free, legal music download site Epitonic, which went out of business in 2004, is back. Pitchfork says the revivded Epitonic has new tracks from The Wrens and Marissa Nadler as well as previously released songs by groups including LCD Soundsystem, Fleet Foxes, and cut copy. I remember downloading some great tracks from Epitonic long ago—I think it was back when I still had a dial-up account. Welcome back, Epitonic!

* Alice in Chains co-founder and former bass player Mike Starr was found dead today in a house in Salt Lake Cty; he was 44. He had had drug problems (he even appeared on the TV show "Celebrity Rehab") and was been arrested last month for felony drug possession. He left Alice in Chains in 1993.

* New Jersey native Pete Yorn is doing six West Coast shows in April to mark the 10th anniversary of his debut album, "musicforthemorningafter." A 10th-anniversary edition of the album will be coming out later this month. Yorn will perform the album in its entirety at each show. He is now on tour and is playing in Philadelphia on March 10th and in New York (at Terminal 5) on March 11th.

* Music publishers have settled their lawsuit against LimeWire. Even though a judge found last year that LimeWire may be liable for multimillion dollar damages, and the case was set to go to trial in a couple of months, all claims have apparently been dismissed, with no reason given. Free Music: KCRW Live Streaming Sets from School of Seven Bells, Pete Yorn, Best Coast, & More

KCRW's great in-studio performance program Morning Becomes Eclectic has a new podcast up of a live set with School of Seven Bells, the project that features Benjamin Curtis of Secret Machines with the twin sisters Alejandra and Claudia Deheza.

I first heard of them in their previous visit to Morning Becomes Eclectic, but while the music in that performance was more electronic and dance-oriented, this latest appearance has a more stripped-down, acoustic sound. The band plays tunes from its latest album, "Disconnect from Desire," which came out this summer. You can download the School of Seven Bells live set here, or through iTunes.

School of Seven Bells will be playing live in New York at the Zero Film Festival in Brooklyn on Sat., Nov. 20th and at Terminal 5 on Thurs., Dec. 2nd (supporting The Walkmen).

Other recent MBE performances that you can stream (but not download) include: Pete Yorn (from Nov. 19th), Best Coast, Clinic, and KT Tunstall.

Music Notes: Live Deerhunter Webcast Tonight, Pete Yorn on Leno, Imperial Stars Stop L.A. Traffic

* Just found out that a Deerhunter show will be webcast live by NPR Music tonight, Oct. 12th. The show is set to begin at 10 p.m. Eastern time.

* Pete Yorn will be on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno Tuesday, Oct. 12th. And he's got a new video out, for his song "Sans Fear" (above).

* The Orange County hip-hop band Imperial Stars stopped traffic on an L.A. freeway this morning, and got arrested for it. The band played songs on a truck that was parked to block most of the 101 freeway in Hollywood. The stunt was apparently a promotional effort for the Imperial Stars song "Traffic Jam 101."

* Heard about this cool video on Twitter called "The Johnny Cash Project": a "global collective art project" that provides assembles countless user-created images for a visual backdrop for Cash's song "Ain't No Grave." And the creators encourage viewers to add their own contributions. It's hard to describe; check it out for yourself.

Pete Yorn Rocks Out on Frank Black Produced New Album

Singer-songwriter Pete Yorn is back with a new album, and fans of his more rocking side (like me) will be quite pleased. The new self-titled album from the Montville, New Jersey native, which came out Sept. 28th, marks a return to the electric, more raw sound often heard on his first few albums. (His last effort, 2009's "Back and Fourth," had a more mellow, acoustic sound.)

It's no accident that "Pete Yorn" is more of a rocker: this new recording was produced by none other than Frank Black (a.k.a. Black Francis) of The Pixies. Black introduced a more edgy feel that is less produced and polished than what Yorn had been doing recently. (Read a brief interview with Pete Yorn, and download or listen to his new single "Precious Stone," at a Magnet Magazine article, in which he talks about working with Frank Black.) You can also download "Precious Stone" free here, and download another song, "Velcro Shoes," free as well.

Yorn has been quite busy lately: beside this new album and last year's "Back and Fourth," he also recorded an album of duets last year with actress/singer Scarlett Johansson, called "Break Up."

Pete Yorn is slowly adding dates to his tour to promote the new album. A New York City show sold out in less than 15 minutes, strangely enough, so here's hoping he'll add another one. (How did that sell out so fast? Did Scarlett Johansson fans discover him from "Break Up" and snap up all the tickets?)

Free Music: Downloads and/or Streaming from Japandroids, Yo La Tengo, Lou Barlow, Yorn & Johansson

Looking for some free tunes to listen to? Here are some fine recent choices I've come across...

Yo La Tengo is the latest band to have a live concert recorded and offered free as a podcast from NPR Music. You can read a brief story about the band and download or stream the Yo La Tengo concert here. It clocks in at nearly two hours, so YLT fans will find plenty to like.

NPR Music also has a (briefer) live set of music from Canada's Japandroids, for download or streaming. The frenetic two-piece band from Vancouver recorded a 20-minute set at Seattle's KEXP radio. You can download individual songs or the entire set.

The new albums by the Avett Brothers and Lou Barlow (of Sebadoh and Dinosaur Jr.) are now available for free streaming on the site's "First Listen" series. Tomorrow the site will begin streaming Rosanne Cash's new album, "The List." Each album is offered for streaming for a limited time; check the link above for dates.
