Sasquatch Lineup & Schedule Announced - Wilco, Modest Mouse, Foo Fighters, Death from Above 1979, Death Cab for Cutie, More

The Sasquatch Festival in Washington State has announced its lineup for 2011—and the proceedings will go on for four days this year. Foo Fighters had already been announced, but now then entire schedule is out (which bands are on which days, anyway; no set times appear on the website).

(Speaking of the Foo Fighters, they have a clever website, www.foofighters.fm, to promote their upcoming album: it recreates the look of an old-fashioned analog radio tuner with controls you can use to "tune in" different "stations" with song samples and at least one interview clip.)

Sasquatch 2011 will take place on Memorial Day weekend, from May 27th to 30th, at the Gorge Ampitheater in George, Washington, near the Columbia River.

Highlights include:
* Friday, May 27th: Foo Fighters, Death from Above 1979, Against Me!, Rival Schools, Smith Westerns
* Saturday, May 28th: Death Cab for Cutie, Bright Eyes, Iron & Wine, Robyn, Wolf Parade
* Sunday, May 29th: Modest Mouse, The Flaming Lips, Flogging Molly, Cold War Kids, Ratatat, Yeasayer, Beach House, Tokyo Police Club, Sam Roberts Band, Basia Bulat
* Monday, May 30th: Wilco, The Decemberists, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Old 97's, MSTRKRFT, Chromeo, Guided by Voices, Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, Deerhunter, Best Coast

See the full Sasquatch lineup here. Four-day all-inclusive Sasquatch tickets are on sale now; single-day tickets go on sale Feb. 14th. You can hear songs from various Sasquatch artists on the website. For the latest updates, see the Sasquatch Twitter feed.

Here's a selection of a few concerts on sale Friday, June 4th:

Also, Live Nation is offering no-service-fee tickets during the month of June for shows during the summer at selected locations. In the greater New York area, that includes the PNC Bank Arts Center in NJ and the Nikon Jones Beach Theater on Long Island.

Special Beatles Remastered 7" Vinyl to be Released in U.S. in May

Record Store Day is over, but the specials continue. The RSD Web site has what it says is "Breaking Beatles News," namely the release of a limited-edition Beatles 7" vinyl to indie record stores in the U.S. next month (the release was made available to independent record shops in the U.K. yesterday as part of its Record Store Day celebrations.) The announcement on the RSD site:

"The Beatles want to extend your Record Store Day high, and to do that they’re releasing THE FIRST PIECE OF REMASTERED VINYL to participating Record Store Day indie record stores on May 18. It’s a LIMITED EDITION 7” featuring “Paperback Writer” b/w “Rain” and it’s coming to the United States in May."

They suggest that you read their disclaimer, which says among other things that since independent record stores are, well, independent, they alone decide what special items to carry and how much. In other, words, RSD can't guarantee that your local indie store will be getting the Beatles limited-edition 7" vinyl, so contact them directly to find out if they're participating.

So how was everyone's Record Store Day? I hit up two stores (Other Music in New York City and Tunes in Hoboken, NJ) and was glad to see that they were both doing brisk business. In fact, Other Music has a small-ish line, so I didn't actually go inside.

As usual, Record Store Day has motivated me to visit local indie stores more often, which in fact I will - Tunes sells tickets for concerts at Maxwell's, the famed Hoboken restaurant, so I'll be popping in there at least a couple of times in the coming weeks.

Music News: Roger Waters 2010 Tour, Supergrass Breaks Up, Lilith Fair Sched Complete, CD Baby & MySpace Connect, No Cream Reunion, More

* Former Pink Floyd member Roger Waters will tour in 2010 to perform the band's album "The Wall" live in its entirety. You'll find Roger Waters tour dates here.

* U.K. pop group Supergrass is breaking up after almost two decades together. They produced six studio albums, according to the linked article, including the anthemic "Alright."

* Online music retailer CD Baby is partnering with MySpace Music to sell tunes from CD Baby artists on the widely used social-networking site. Though MySpace has lost momentum to Facebook and Twitter as a go-to social-networking destination, it's still a potent force for musicians and fans to reach each other.

* Lilith Fair has announced its complete list of 2010 tour dates. The all-women touring festival, begun by Sarah McLachlan a decade ago, returns this summer. McLachlan is once again headlining every event on the tour, which otherwise has a different line-up of 11 performers at each date.

* Jack Bruce, best known as the bassist for 1960s supergroup Cream (with Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker) and West, Bruce, & Laing, has confirmed that Cream will never reunite again. Which makes me very glad that I saw them in 2005 at Madison Square Garden. Even though that ticket was the most money I've ever spend for a concert ticket, it was well worth it.

* And finally, the highly influential Malcolm McLaren died last week, and KCRW music librarian Eric J. Lawrence offers a brief remembrance here. McLaren is best know for managing the Sex Pistols, but he also recorded his own albums and had a hand in fashion and cinema.

Lollapalooza 2010 Tickets On Sale Now; Who's in the Lineup?

UPDATE 4/6: the Lollapalooza 2010 lineup has been announced here. On the bill: Soundgarden, Green Day, Lady Gaga, Arcade Fire, The Strokes, Phoenix, Jimmy Cliff, and many more.

- - - -
Tickets went on sale today for the Lollapalooza 2010 festival in Chicago, which will be held August 6th to 8th. You can get your Lollapalooza 2010 tickets at the link below. The festival takes place in Grant Park, as it has in recent years after being downsized from a traveling summer festival to a one-site, one-weekend event.

The Lollapalooza 2010 lineup won't be announced until April 6th, but rumors are already spreading about who might be on the bill. Names such as Lady Gaga, Soundgarden, and Green Day are among those being bandied about. The Lollapalooza Web site has a link to a page for the Lollapalooza 2010 lineup, but that page simply says "Stay Tuned!"

You might want to act soon if you want to save some money: tickets for the early bird 3-day pass ($175) are already sold out. Advance passes ($190) are now being sold, and when those sell out, the "regular" 3-day pass ($215) will go on sale. Make sure you read the Lollapalooza ticket FAQ to find out the ticket options, restrictions, etc. so you can choose the best plan for your needs.

So buy your tickets now and make your travel plans, and then you can spend the next few days speculating about who'll be in the Lollapalooza 2010 lineup!

The lineup for the 2010 Sasquatch Festival was announced at a free show at the Crocodile February 15th. The festival's home page is swamped by traffic and won't load as of 2 a.m. Eastern time, but here are some details I've been able to get from the Twitter account of the Ear Candy music blog (and a photo of the 2010 Sasquatch poster that Ear Candy posted):

My Morning Jacket / Massive Attack / Pavement / Ween / Vampire Weekend / MGMT / The National / Band of Horses / Broken Social Scene / The xx / The New Pornographers / LCD Soundsystem / Tegan & Sara / Broken Social Scene / Passion Pit / The Hold Steady / Dirty Projectors / OK Go / Drive By Truckers / Kid Cudi / Long Winters / Minus the Bear / The Mountain Goats / Camera Obscura / Dr. Dog

Brooklyn Vegan has a more complete 2010 Sasquatch lineup here, which may or may not be completely final and accurate. Paste has what it says is the full Sasquatch lineup on its Web site. Sasquatch will issue a press release Tuesday morning, Feb. 16th.

This year's festival takes place May 29th to 31st at The Gorge in Washington State. 2010 Sasquatch tickets go on sale at 12 Noon Eastern time.

The Sasquatch Festival home page, www.sasquatchfestival.com, shows only info for the 2009 festival at this point. Let's hope it's updated soon.

You can find more information at the Bonnaroo home page and the Bonnaroo MySpace page. The official site has a new Bonnaroo information guide with details on how to get there, where to stay, what you can and can't bring, etc.

The first two price levels sold out during a pre-sale in December, so make your plans now for Bonnaroo 2010!

Blondie, Pat Benatar, and The Donnas to Play FREE Coney Island Show Thursday

A month after the Siren Festival, Coney Island is set to host another big concert event: the women-who-rock tripleheader of Blondie, Pat Benatar, and The Donnas. The three acts, who have been touring around the U.S. this summer, will be performing a free show in the Summer Seaside Concert Series at Asser Levy/Seaside Park in Coney Island/Brighton Beach, across the street from the New York Aquarium.

You can find directions to Asser Levy Park here, including subway and driving directions and a link to a map of the area. (Via subway: take the D to Stillwell Avenue/Coney Island Station; or take the Q or F to West 8th Street/NY Aquarium Station.)

See here for more Donnas tour dates, including some headlining shows. You can find Pat Benatar tour dates here. And here's the link for all the Blondie tour dates.

The free Blondie/Benatar/Donnas show in Brooklyn has been on my radar for some time, but I hadn't been aware of this concert series until just now. Which is too bad, because they've had some great classic acts: Credence Clearwater Revival, Gladys Knight and the O'Jays, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, Daryl Hall and John Oates, and the last show of the season, Donna Summer on August 27th.

The Donnas Celebrating 16th Anniversary with Tour and Greatest Hits

Happy anniversary to The Donnas, who this year are celebrating their Sweet 16 as a band. The ladies aren't resting on their laurels, of course, and are gearing up for a summer tour with two pioneers of women in rock, Pat Benatar and Blondie.

The new Donnas collection, called The Donnas Greatest Hits, Vol 16, will drop July 7th and is said to include unheard B-sides from their last album, Bitchin'.

According to an e-mail from the band yesterday, the album will also include:
"... Live versions of hits "Take It Off" and "Fall Behind Me", and two previously unreleased tracks from the band’s earliest days together. The band also re-recorded five tracks, remixed one and included two alternative versions of songs from their Lookout! Records catalog (1998-2001), one of which is sung by original producer/co-writer Darin Raffaelli."

For full track listing and Donnas tour dates see this article on Alt-Sounds.

In addition, The Donnas have some songs from their early bands that can be streamed on their MySpace page. You can find more songs from those bands, Ragady Anne and The Electrocutes (their later name), at MySpace pages for those bands, where you can also buy some of the tracks.

The Donnas summer 2009 tour starts on July 16th in San Diego and ends on August 23rd in Houston. The Donnas will be headline some of the shows. You can find more information about The Donnas on their Web site (in first paragraph) or on their Twitter feed.

Bob Mould Plays Maxwell's Solo (But Not Acoustic)

Bob Mould put on a rocking show with his band back in March in New York, and last Thursday he played a couple of intimate solo shows at Maxwell's in Hoboken. Solo, yes, but definitely not acoustic: Mould and his electric guitar were strumming and howling through a selection of songs from his entire catalog, much like his NYC show in March.

That show was in one of a much larger venue, Irving Plaza, and Mould probably wouldn't play a club the size of Maxwell's except for its historical value. Maxwell's was one of the clubs that Mould's seminal band Husker Du played at, and onstage at the club Mould even seemed to recall the first time he played there (1984). Mould's two-night stand at Maxwell's was part of the club's 30th anniversary, and the 10th anniversary of the club's current ownership (which rescued the club from a brief, unfortunate incarnation as an Italian restaurant and brewpub).

There definitely seemed to be a sameness to the songs when heard only on one electric guitar, but to hear a legend like Bob Mould in a place as intimate as Maxwell's, with a capacity of about 200, was a rare treat I didn't want to miss.

And good news for Mould fans: he played a few new songs at Maxwell's and said that he was working on a new album, which is scheduled to be out next Spring. Considering that District Line is still a pretty recent album, that's good news indeed.
